| Part
of the Reality Response team, a division of AIS, Inc. located
in Monterey, CA., our main product was SVS™, a specialized
software designed for real-time interactive network scenario
authoring. Our art department built 3D databases for use in
this application. I was given a month to build the Petco Park
stadium in San Diego, CA. Without floor plans, other than on-line
images and outdated Google earth satellite pictures showing
only the stadium's foundation, the task was still completed
on schedule.
The
art director was pleased, but asked now to destroy it -- and
by the way -- redo the originally hacked convention center (home
to 2007 SIGGRAPH) while you're at it. In the next several days,
a "dead state" was created of the structure's entrance,
and another three or so to make the convention center look cool.
Once delivered to the programmer, the stadium could be destroyed
at the the push of a button, complete with explosion, fire and
smoke. The final goal was a rich database for Homeland Security
to practice terrorist scenarios at heavily populated ballparks.

CGSD,
Inc, specialized in virtual simulation technologies. Located
in Mountain View, CA., their major client was SimulTainment
Corp. Headed by John Barnes, heir to the Barnes & Noble
bookstore chain, his project required creating a virtual island
for a high-end motion-based flight simulator, AeroBall™.
The display technology is almost identical to NASA's Vertical
Motion Simulator (VMS) at the AMES Research facility in
Mountain View, CA. In fact, the AeroBall simulator was on loan
to AMES and resided in a building adjacent to the VMS.
Another
project involved a virtual creation of Berkeley, CA. for Computer
Graphics Systems Development Corporation's (CGSD) DS-230
driving simulator. Using state-of-the-art image processors,
a driver in the virtual vehicle can travel through the streets
of the town. This is available in both a head mounted display/tracker
version or three viewing screens surrounding the viewer. Brought
to a SIGGRAPH (1999) Convention in Los Angeles, CA, it was a
big hit.
My
fine-art work is quite well known in the Silicon Valley. These
photo realistic acrylic paintings have been spotlighted
in newspapers, magazines and on television. Four of the original
pieces were sold to the City of Mountain View, CA and have a
home in their library.
Several
honors have been achieved through the years, including a First
Place award in the Corel World Design Contest. An illustration
of a Dodge, this vector drawing has been featured in various
magazine articles. It also landed a spot in the book, CorelDRAW7:The
Official Guide.
Most
recently, a library of high-quality 3-D digital models are offered
for download on-line. Ranging from vehicles, characters, street
furniture and vending equipment, they have been used by gamers
and video production companies. Custom models are also available
upon request.
