PART XII Cindy Taylor Becomes a Rock'N Roll Super Star!

Sidney Bekon was sitting in his one-room downtown apartment on this Sunday evening. He was preparing for the following week. Three weeks ago, he was able to administer an amnesia drug to Cindy, rendering her memory useless. Now that she was out of the way, he was ready to move onto Plan B: to put Penny Cest down for good.

The phone rang.

"This is Vince Montgony", the voice on the other side announced.

"Vince, my man", Bekon replied, 'How's is your high life doing these days?"

"Couldn't be better, Bek", Montgony bragged, "I'm getting more dames that was ever in my best dreams."

"I'm glad to hear that, Vince."

"I just wanted to let you know", Montgony continued, "that your cop mama has a motorcycle friend."

"I know about him", Bekon replied as he had one eye on the TV.

The Ed Sullivan show began. Sullivan introduced his latest talent.

"Montgony", Bekon ordered, "I want you to..."

At that moment, Sidney bekon's mouth dropped. As he watched the television, the image of Cindy Taylor was projected before him- as a rock'n roll singer

"My god!" Bekon hollered out. "My once prized programmer is now a rock'n roll deva!"

After the show, Cindy was in her dressing room looking in a large mirror. The mirror station was arrayed with bright bulbs, which allowed the Sullivan guest to look at themselves in studio light. Mom was passing the floor smoking a cigarette, trying to make sense of Cindy's sudden surge to fame.

"How did I do, Mom?" Cindy asked as she pulled off her wig.

"The old folks thought you were Satan himself, my dear", Mom confessed, "But the young men in the audience. I've never seen anything like this!"

"What was it that they found so appealing?" Cindy asked, "I'm much older than most of them. Your Doctor said that I'm probably about thirty-five!"

Mom walked over to Cindy and smiled.

"You bring sunshine into a room", Mom whispered, "That's all I can tell you."

Cindy just gave a puzzled look as she put her hand on her hip and pushed her head out, unaware that her two friends had been looking for her.

Mario and Penny were in shock. They assumed that Cindy was a victim of foul play, but the surprise of their life was met by her appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.

"We need to get her before..", Penny said.

"Before what?" Mario abruptly countered, sensing as usual there was more to this story.

"You're a good man, Mario", Penny said as she gently caressed his head on the couch!"

"Look, Penny!" Mario announced, "The bull stops right here. Ever since I met you two, there has been something going funny here. First I get the gee vies spooked out me when I see a little girl with your name that looks and sounds just like you. Now Cindy shows up on TV as some sort of rock'n roll dame."

Penny got up walked toward the window.

"We have a very serious situation, Mario."

"What do you mean?", Mario demanded.

"Remember that little girl you saw?" Penny asked, "That was me."

Mario's face just turned blank.

"You came into my father's store, in Pacifica", Penny continued, "My mother was there and mentioned mentioned something about a dentist appointment. I looked up at you and asked if you were OK. 'You don't look so good', I think I said." Mario's facial colors turned green. "Other than that, I cannot recall. It's been over forty-five years ago."

Mario walked into the kitchen and opened a bottle of whisky and handed it to Mario. He grabbed it and took a large gulp.

The next day, Mario was in sitting at his desk at Moffett Field, trying to manage a splitting headache from the night before.

"Skipper!" Jackson said as he entered the office, "Did you watch Ed Sullivan last night?"

"I saw her", Mario replied as he pulled a cigarette from this pocket.

"You've been holding out us, haven't you?" Jackson asked as he jokingly punched Mario's arm."Your girlfriend is a rock'n roll teen queen."

"She thirty-five years old", Mario replied as he lit the cigarette."Then again, she hasn't been born yet."

"What do you mean?" Jackson asked.

"I'm just as puzzled over this thing, Jackson", Mario answered. "Do me a favor. Find Cindy Taylor's agent...or De De, as she now calls herself.

The Harley Davidson roared up the Bayshore Highway as it approached the Whisky Gulch strip. It was 2 o'clock in the afternoon with little traffic on the four-lane highway. As it pulled to a stop in front of the Zombie Hut, Mario got off the bike and pulled off his gloves. He took one last drag from his cigarette and smothered it with his boot. He took a short look at the tavern and walked in the front door.

In the dark room, Mom and Cindy sat at the bar.

"Hey Cindy!" Mario called out.

Cindy and Mom looked at the blond biker as he walked up. Cindy politely smiled, but looked a little confused.

"It's good to see you, Cindy", Mario said, as he gently grabbed both her shoulders. But she looked at him as he was a total stranger.

"You don't remember me?" Mario asked in devastation.

"I'm sorry!" Cindy sung out.

Mario couldn't believe what he was hearing as he gazed into the familiar face- her pale green eyes, her bushy eyes brows and her sweet smile and full red lips.

"Mario", he cried out, "We went out together!"

"It's starting to come back to me now", Cindy announced, "You were that guy- the swooner- in the front row at the Ed Sullivan Theater.

"I cannot believe this", Mario said as he pulled off his glasses and wiped his face. Mom walked up to him and put her hand on his shoulder.

"I'm sorry, sailor boy, but Dee Dee doesn't seem to recall your acquaintance."

"Yeah, right- Dee Dee", Mario said as he put his glasses back on. "I'm going to get to the bottom of this!"

Mario walked out of the tavern, jumped on his bike and rode out.
